FRIDAY — Christ Is Your Future

Scripture: 1 John 3:2–3

“When he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.”

Some of the chapters behind you are beautiful. Some are painful. Some contain things you wish had never happened.

Those chapters matter. They have formed you.

But they do not have to determine every chapter still to come.

And here is the great Christian hope:

You don't have to invent the ending.

God has already shown us where the story is going.

Christ is coming.

The Kingdom has been inaugurated.

Death has been defeated and one day will be no more.

And when Christ is revealed—

we shall be like Him.

So don't spend your whole life merely rereading what has already happened.

And don't spend your whole life trying to invent the person you think you ought to become.

Look to Christ.

Your past has formed you.

Your potential may inspire you.

But ultimately, Christ is your future.

And because we know where the story is going, we can begin living that story today.

Looking back over this week, what part of your past do you need to surrender to Christ?

What characteristic of Jesus do you most want to become visible in your life?

What would it look like to begin living that future today?

Prayer

Jesus, I give you the chapters behind me and the chapters still ahead. Redeem what has been, transform who I am, and shape who I am becoming. Teach me to live today in anticipation of your coming Kingdom. May my life increasingly reflect the promise that one day we shall be like you. Amen.
