You Don't Have to See the Whole Road

Philippians 1:6

I’m sure about this: the one who started a good work in you will stay with you to complete the job by the day of Christ Jesus.

We like vision to mean having a clear picture of the future.

Where am I going?

What's going to happen?

What will my family look like five years from now? What about my career? My church? My relationships?

We want God to show us the road.

But Paul doesn't know the future of the Philippian church either. His confidence comes from somewhere else: “The one who started a good work in you will stay with you to complete the job.”

Paul doesn't know exactly what will happen.

He knows who will be there.

Sometimes we spend so much energy trying to manufacture the future that we miss the God who is already present. Faith doesn't require seeing twenty years down the road. Faith means trusting the One who began the work enough to follow Him today.

You don't need to see the whole road to trust the One leading you.

Pray: 

God, I cannot see everything ahead of me, but I trust that you are already there. Free me from needing to control the future and teach me to faithfully follow you today. Amen.
